Our school is located in Covilhã, a town 300 km away from the capital of Portugal -Lisbon. It has 55 thousand inhabitants. This region is in the center of Portugal, close to the mountain Serra da Estrela.  We have some students from others countries as Moldavia, Ukraine, Uzbesquistão, France, USA, Brazil and Guinea. Our school includes secondary, vocational and technical courses. There are 810 students who are taught by 86 teachers and  we have a office of psychology.

Our school have 32 students with special needs and we ´ve  special programmes   for them.  We have some sport activities, theater, dance, arts , music and cinema. We have all weeks a radio programme for all our region- Cova da Beira. We promote different lectures about several subjects. We have a lot of partnerships with a several nonprofits   associations. In our curriculum we teach a kind of subject “ Civic  Education” (Formação Cívica).

We recently have, here in our school, a new technological centre- the first one in our country. We are linked not only to other Portuguese schools, but also to others in foreign countries. With those, we have  been developing new educational programmes.

Our school is situated in new building's complex near the largest town in our region.  Lots of families of our pupils are also in a difficult socioeconomic situation because the only source of revenue often comes of the running of small farms with a weak profit.  We accept also pupils with specific needs (various pathologies, school problems, ...).

We have in our school pupils from all sociocultural origins.  Some come from under-privileged spheres, according to the closing of numerous factories.  We also notice emigration of parents abroad to find a job, which makes the family context more precarious.  Therefore we have taken up a policy of prevention against failure at school and social exclusion.

Nevertheless, in spite of the relatively low standard of living of some families, we have got their support of municipality to secure a high quality education, based on optimum socialization conditions for the pupils and education grounded on national and common human values. There is a folklore group in our village in which participate many pupils from our school.

OŠ Primorski Dolac is a small primary school in the southern Croatia, which has about 90 pupils. Our school is located in sparsely populated rural area of the Dalmatian hinterland. Since our area is mostly inhabited by the elderly population, the memories of the folklore heritage are very much alive, and our school helps in its preservation. There is a folklore society in our village in which participate many pupils from our school. Also, at the distance of less then 50 km there are three Mediterranean cities whose cultural heritage is on the UNESCO's World Heritage list (Split, Trogir and Šibenik).

            Istanbul (Turkey)

We are a small private school in Istanbul, Turkey named Sancaktepe BİRİKİM College. Our school is located in Sancaktepe, which is a small new established district and it is available for development. It is a socio-economically disadvantaged area and the educational level of people living here is low to average.

In our school we have at about 360 students aged 5-14 and 30 teachers. All of them are well educated in their field and highly motivated. There are pupils with special needs in the school. The region in which our school is located has lots of migrants from East and South Anatolia. These people experience difficulties in adapting to the metropolitan life.  Although we are a private school  our parents are not well-educated and this sometimes leads to misunderstandings among teachers, students and parents.

This Comenius project give us the opportunity to get in touch with the European countries. In a world where there are less and less boundaries we believe that we should all get together, hand in hand, in the name of peace, tolerance and cooperation.

The European cooperation activities would enhance the self-esteem of our students, teachers and parents; teach them to be equal partners in international teamwork and give them the chance to learn lots of things and get acquainted with different cultures.
